From a small workshop to a premier venue for machine learning for health research.

A brief history of ML4H

Machine Learning for Health (ML4H) began in 2015 as the NeurIPS Workshop on ML in Healthcare, founded by Theofanis Karaletsos, Rajesh Ranganath, Suchi Saria, and David Sontag. The following year, the workshop adopted the name Machine Learning for Health, and continued as a NeurIPS workshop through 2020, with editions in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. In 2021, ML4H became an independent standalone symposium co-located with NeurIPS, and has continued to grow each year since. The 2026 edition marks the 6th annual ML4H Symposium.
